The U.S. Embassy in Amman has advised American citizens to reconsider travel to Jordan and the wider Middle East region amid heightened tensions and the possibility of unexpected escalation.
In a security alert, the embassy said: "Due to high tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation. We remind Americans in the region of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments. Americans traveling in or through the region should also check with their air carriers to make sure their flights are still scheduled.
The embassy also advised U.S. citizens to avoid travel to military bases in Jordan and to stay away from demonstrations, large gatherings, and areas with a heavy police presence.
The warning noted that on March 2, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members to leave Jordan due to safety risks.
Americans were encouraged to follow instructions from local authorities, contact airlines regarding possible flight changes, maintain a low profile, and exercise caution at locations publicly associated with the United States.
The embassy also recommended that U.S. citizens enroll in the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive security updates and emergency assistance.
