Ammon News - The Department of Lands and Survey (DLS) said a proposed Real Estate Ownership Law is aimed at facilitating co-ownership partition procedures, addressing cases that have remained pending for years, and expanding the use of digital services in the real estate sector.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department said the draft law would enable electronic property sales and recognize digital signatures as part of a broader effort to digitize real estate transactions and services.
The proposal would also require the government, municipalities, and the Greater Amman Municipality to pay expropriation compensation within a maximum of five years, with delay compensation payable for each year of delay.
The department said the draft legislation is different from the Buildings and Lands Law that the government withdrew last year. It added that the proposed law does not introduce new taxes or fees on real estate transactions.
According to the department, the bill is intended to support investment, encourage activity in the real estate market, simplify and speed up procedures for citizens, regulate provisions related to promises to sell, and allow the sale of off-plan real estate units within a clear legal framework.
The department said the proposed amendments would contribute to supporting the construction, contracting, real estate, and property investment sectors.
