Jordan condemns Israeli extremists’ storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

31-05-2026 03:03 PM

Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists on Sunday, as well as their "provocative and reckless" actions, including raising Israeli flags and chanting inside its courtyards under the protection of Israeli occupation police.

The ministry described the actions as a blatant violation of international law, a condemned escalation, and an unacceptable provocation that must stop immediately.

Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the continued incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque and the accompanying provocations. He said such actions constitute a flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo at the site, a rejected attempt to impose temporal and spatial division, and a desecration of its sanctity.

Majali stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites. He warned of the consequences of these continued violations and provocations, calling on the international community to take a firm position that compels Israel, as the occupying power, to halt all irresponsible practices and ongoing violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, as well as unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.

Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque, with its entire 144-dunum area, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He added that the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs’ Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the legal authority with exclusive jurisdiction over managing all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque and regulating entry to it.
