Ammon News - The adoption of digital identity is expected to enhance integration across ministries and government institutions, establish digital ID as an officially recognized document for public and electronic transactions, improve service delivery for citizens, and streamline procedures through faster and more reliable processing, according to Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Ghaith Ghazi Tayeb.
Tayeb stated on Monday that the amended Civil Status Law, once published in the Official Gazette, will grant digital identity legal recognition as an official form of identification alongside the physical national ID card. The digital identity will have the same legal authority in proving identity and validating the information it contains, requiring both public and private institutions to accept it in accordance with the law.
He described the explicit legal recognition of digital identity as a milestone in Jordan’s digital transformation efforts and in the modernization of public service delivery.
Tayeb explained that introducing digital identity into the legislative framework regulating the Civil Status and Passports Department reflects the government’s commitment to administrative modernization and digital transformation, while supporting the broader national modernization agenda in line with the Public Sector Modernization Roadmap aimed at creating a modern and efficient public administration capable of delivering advanced services to citizens.
He noted that the digital identity serves as an electronic counterpart to the smart national ID card and includes all the information contained in the physical card, granting it the same legal and identification value in the digital sphere. He added that adopting digital identity is essential for keeping pace with technological progress and strengthening trust in electronic services.
Tayeb also stressed that digital identity will allow citizens to complete transactions electronically in a secure and convenient manner, reduce dependence on paper-based documentation, streamline procedures, and enhance the overall efficiency and quality of government services.
