Army strikes smuggling sites along northern border

03-05-2026 07:57 AM

Ammon News - The Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army (JAF) said it carried out a pre-dawn operation on Sunday, targeting arms and drug trafficking sites along the Kingdom’s northern border.

JAF said that the strikes in the “Jordanian Deterrence Operation” were based on intelligence and operational data that identified factories, facilities and warehouses used by trafficking groups as launch points for smuggling operations into Jordan.

The sites on the northern border [with Syria] were subsequently targeted and destroyed, a JAF statement said.

JAF said that the operation was conducted with “high precision” to prevent weapons and narcotics from entering Jordanian territory.

It added that trafficking groups have recently adopted new methods, exploiting weather conditions and the broader regional situation to carry out their activities.

The army noted a “marked” increase in attempted smuggling of arms and drugs, constituting a “significant challenge for border guard units and supporting formations.”

The statement stressed that the army will continue to respond “proactively and decisively to any threats to Jordan’s security and sovereignty.”
