Ammon News - Jordan has renewed its rejection of what it described as illegal Israeli policies in the occupied Palestinian territories, including settlement activities, discriminatory legislation, obstruction of aid delivery to the Gaza Strip, and the withholding of Palestinian Authority clearance revenues.
Jordan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Walid Obeidat, said during a discussion at the United Nations Security Council on Palestine that Jordan also condemns violations affecting the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
Obeidat called for support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, compliance with Security Council Resolution 2803, and implementation of the two-state solution.
The United Nations Security Council, under the presidency of Bahrain, held a meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue. The session included briefings from UN official Khaled Khiari and Executive Committee member of the Council for Peace Tony Blair.
Khiari said Gaza is enduring “ongoing and deadly Israeli strikes” alongside severe humanitarian conditions.
He told the UN Security Council that about 1.8 million people are displaced and reliant on aid, while the ceasefire remains increasingly fragile.
Khiari also warned that Israel’s violence and settlement expansion in the West Bank are undermining prospects for a political solution.
