Ammon News - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Omar Salameh, said that the 2025–2026 rainy season is considered excellent, achieving more than 130% of the Kingdom’s average annual rainfall, which is estimated at around 8.1 billion cubic meters.
Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV on Tuesday, Salameh explained that most dams in the southern and central regions of the country have reached full storage capacity due to successive rainfall across most areas. However, northern dams have not yet reached full capacity, as this season’s rainfall has been concentrated in the southern, eastern, and central regions.
He noted that the Al-Wehda Dam in northern Jordan has received only limited amounts of water this season, expressing hope that its storage levels will improve before the end of the rainy period.
Salameh added that current indicators point to a promising rainy season and an excellent agricultural outlook. He expects this to directly support the ministry’s ability to better meet drinking water needs and supply citizens during the summer compared to previous seasons, thereby enhancing water and food security in the Kingdom.
He also pointed out that groundwater basins have recorded noticeable improvement in some areas due to abundant rainfall, which will help slow depletion and improve water quality. In addition, most dams and desert reservoirs—numbering around 650 with a total storage capacity exceeding 150 million cubic meters—have been filled, along with tens of thousands of rainwater harvesting wells in homes and farms across most governorates.
