Cool, moist air mass brings rain and lower temperatures across Jordan

07-04-2026 08:12 AM

Ammon News - Cool, Unsettled Conditions Persist with Rain and Dust Warnings

A relatively cold and moist air mass is shaping weather conditions on Tuesday, bringing a mix of cooler temperatures, cloud cover, and intermittent rainfall across several regions, the Jordan Meteorological Department said.

Partly cloudy skies are prevailing across most areas, with relatively cool conditions dominating, while warmer weather continues in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Rain showers are expected to develop around midday in northern and central regions, with the potential to intensify at times and be accompanied by thunder, before extending later to parts of the eastern and southwestern areas.

Winds are forecast to be northwesterly and moderate, becoming more active during the afternoon and raising dust in Badia regions. Rainfall is expected to weaken by evening, as the weather system gradually loses intensity.

The Meteorological Department warned of reduced visibility during the early morning hours due to fog over high northern and central mountainous areas and parts of the plains. It also cautioned that visibility may decline at times due to dust in desert regions, alongside the risk of slippery roads in areas experiencing rainfall.

Conditions are expected to remain unsettled on Wednesday, with relatively cool and partly cloudy weather continuing across most regions. Showers are forecast to redevelop around midday in various areas, particularly in western parts, with a chance of thunder. Winds will remain northwesterly, moderate to active, stirring dust at intervals in exposed areas.

A gradual improvement is expected on Thursday, as temperatures edge higher, though relatively cool conditions will persist across most regions. Some low clouds are expected in northern areas, accompanied by moderate westerly winds that may become active at times.

By Friday, temperatures are forecast to rise further, bringing milder conditions across most regions and warmer weather in low-lying areas. High-level clouds are expected, with moderate westerly winds continuing.

Temperature ranges on Tuesday reflect regional contrasts, with East Amman forecast between 16 C and 7 C, and West Amman between 14 C and 5 C. Northern highlands will record 13 C to 4 C, while the Sharah highlands range between 12 C and 5 C.

In the Badia, temperatures are expected between 19 C and 6 C, and in the plains between 17 C and 8 C. The northern Jordan Valley is forecast at 25 C to 11 C, rising to 29 C to 17 C in the southern valley. The Dead Sea will record 28 C to 15 C, while Aqaba reaches 29 C to 16 C. Petra
