The U.S. Embassy in Amman has issued a security alert for American citizens, urging vigilance amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The embassy stated that there are no changes to embassy operations or departure options at this time, but emphasized that Iran has carried out attacks on civilian locations across the region, including hotels, airports, and embassies.
Americans in Jordan are advised to shelter in place in secure locations, maintain supplies of food, water, and medications, and follow instructions from local authorities. The embassy also warned about potential scams and urged citizens to follow official guidance and avoid giving money to unknown individuals.
The Embassy indicated that commercial flights continue to operate from Queen Alia International Airport, and Americans are encouraged to consider departing if it is safe to do so. Several land border crossings to neighboring countries, including Syria and Saudi Arabia, remain open with varying operating hours. Ferry services from Aqaba to Egypt are also available.
The embassy recommends enrollment in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive updates and stresses the importance of keeping family and friends informed, staying aware of surroundings, and avoiding protests or demonstrations.
