Ammon News - The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has warned against an unlicensed candy product marketed in the shape of cigarettes, stressing that the item is not approved for trading and may have entered the market through illegal channels under misleading labels such as sweets or flavorings.
In a statement, the JFDA said its inspection and monitoring teams are conducting ongoing, expanded field campaigns to track the product. These efforts have already led to the seizure of quantities found at a commercial facility, which was subsequently shut down. Investigations remain underway to ensure the local market is free of the product.
The JFDA added that all candy products are subject to review by a specialized technical committee prior to import to ensure compliance with Jordanian technical regulations and relevant instructions.
The authority said it is coordinating with relevant agencies, including customs authorities, to tighten control at border crossings and prevent the entry of the product, as part of broader efforts to protect public health, particularly that of children.
It emphasized that any products bearing promotional indications related to tobacco or smoking are prohibited from sale and distribution under the Public Health Law No. 47 of 2008 and its amendments. Violators are subject to legal penalties.
The JFDA urged the public to report any concerns or inquiries via its toll-free complaints line (117114), email (info@jfda.jo), or WhatsApp (0795632000).
