Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy Amman issued a security alert on March 19, 2026, stating that there are no changes to departure options or embassy operations, while confirming it is closely monitoring the evolving situation across the Middle East.
The embassy stressed that U.S. citizens currently in Jordan should consider departing the region using available commercial flights from Queen Alia International Airport, which remain operational. It added that Americans who choose to stay should be prepared to shelter in place and maintain essential supplies, including food, water, and medications.
The warning highlighted concerns over regional security, noting that Iran has previously targeted civilian locations across the Middle East, including airports, hotels, and embassies.
The embassy also outlined available land and sea exit routes, including border crossings with neighboring countries and ferry services from Aqaba to Egypt, though it cautioned that crossing conditions may change depending on security developments.
In a related measure, the U.S. Department of State confirmed that since March 3, non-emergency U.S. government personnel and their families have been ordered to leave Jordan due to the threat of armed conflict. Routine consular services at the embassy have also been suspended.
Despite these restrictions, officials said emergency assistance for U.S. citizens continues through a 24/7 task force, urging Americans to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities while monitoring official updates.
