Minister confirms wheat quantities en route to Jordan

17-03-2026 02:29 PM

Ammon News - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, said on Tuesday that the ministry has, since last November, enforced a decision to prohibit the export of essential food commodities without prior approval, in order to safeguard national stock levels.

Speaking during a meeting of the parliamentary Economy and Investment Committee, Qudah noted that the government has also decided not to impose any increases on taxes or customs duties on goods, despite rising transportation costs and shifts in supply routes.

He affirmed that current wheat reserves are sufficient for five and a half months, with additional contracted shipments—enough for four more months—already en route to the Kingdom. Meanwhile, existing feed stockpiles are expected to cover demand for the next eight months.

The committee meeting focused on assessing supply chain conditions and exploring ways to ensure the sustainability of a secure and strategic reserve of essential goods.
