Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy in Amman issued a security alert on March 17, 2026, urging American citizens in Jordan to remain vigilant amid ongoing regional tensions, while confirming that there are no changes to departure options or embassy operations.

The embassy said it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and will continue to provide updates to help citizens make informed decisions about their safety. It added that the U.S. government stands ready to assist those wishing to leave the region by offering the latest information on available travel options.

According to the alert, commercial flights continue to operate from Queen Alia International Airport, and Americans are strongly encouraged to consider departing on these flights if they believe it is safe to do so.

The embassy warned that Iran has carried out attacks targeting civilian locations across the region, including hotels, airports, embassies, and other facilities, advising citizens to be prepared to shelter in place and maintain adequate supplies of food, water, and medications.

It also noted that several land border crossings remain open, including routes to neighboring countries, as well as ferry services between Aqaba and Egypt, though travel conditions may change rapidly depending on security developments.

The U.S. Department of State had previously ordered the departure of non-emergency personnel and their families from Jordan on March 3 due to the risk of armed conflict. Routine consular services at the embassy remain suspended, while emergency assistance continues to be available.

The embassy urged U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), stay in contact with family members, keep travel documents ready, avoid protests and large gatherings, and follow instructions issued by local authorities.
