Ammon News - The Lower House Energy and Mineral Resources Committee discussed the readiness of Jordan’s energy sector and the impact of regional developments on the Kingdom’s electricity system and industrial sector during a meeting on Sunday.

The meeting, chaired by MP Ayman Abu Hanieh, reviewed the challenges facing factories and companies amid ongoing regional crises.

Abu Hanieh said the industrial sector remains a key contributor to the state budget and a major driver of the national economy, noting that several factories have complained about gas supply disruptions that are affecting production continuity.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, including Abdul Salam Zyoud, as well as Iyad Abu Haltm, a member of the Jordan Chamber of Industry, and other stakeholders.

During the discussion, MPs Abdul Baset Kabariti, Jamal Qamouh, Mai Harhasheh, Rakin Abu Hanieh, Iman Abbasi, and Naseem Al-Abadi called for a clear strategic plan to address current challenges and for expanding the use of renewable energy in the industrial sector.

For his part, Zyoud said the commission has prepared an emergency plan to deal with potential challenges facing the Kingdom due to the regional war, noting that the plan has been approved by the Cabinet.

He also reassured the committee that Jordan has sufficient reserves of petroleum derivatives and gas, adding that shipments carrying fuel and gas are already on their way to the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Abu Haltm pointed to slow procedures for granting licenses to factories seeking to use renewable energy, calling for faster approvals to help reduce energy costs and enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector.
