Ammon News - Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Asem bin Nayef on Friday attended the 123rd session of the Hashemite Scientific Councils, held under the title "Qiyas as the Basis of Ijtihad and the Flexibility of Islamic Sharia."

The fourth and final council of this year took place at the Islamic Cultural Center Hall of the King Abdullah I Mosque.

Speaking during the session were Imam of the Hashemite Court, Ahmad Al-Khalayleh, and Secretary-General of the Jordanian General Iftaa Department, Zaid Al-Kilani.

Al-Khalayleh explained that qiyas the method of drawing analogies in Islamic jurisprudence by linking a new issue without a direct religious text to another issue with an established ruling due to a shared cause enhances understanding of the objectives of Islamic law and the reasoning behind its rulings.

He added that this principle grants Islamic jurisprudence flexibility and the ability to address emerging issues in a manner consistent with the rulings and objectives of Islam.

For his part, Al-Kilani noted that qiyas is closely linked to the principle of justice, as it is based on equality between cases that share the same underlying cause. He stressed that this mechanism ensures fairness in meanings and rulings, just as a scale ensures fairness in weights, by achieving interests that are governed by the principles of Sharia and free from personal whims.

The Hashemite Scientific Councils are among the most prominent cultural and religious events organized annually by the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs during the holy month of Ramadan under Royal patronage, aiming to promote enlightened Islamic thought that addresses contemporary challenges.

The session was attended by Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom Ahmad Al-Hasanat, Chief Islamic Justice Abdel Hafez Rabtah, along with a number of officials, muftis, Sharia judges, imams, preachers and female preachers.
