Ammon News - Department of Statistics reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for February 2026 rose by 1.17% compared with the same month in 2025, according to its monthly inflation report.
The index also recorded a slight increase of 0.22% compared with January 2026.
On a cumulative basis, the CPI for the first two months of 2026 increased by 1.11% compared with the same period in 2025.
A comparison of monthly price increases in January and February 2026 shows they were lower than the monthly levels recorded throughout 2025.
The rise in the CPI in February 2026 was mainly driven by higher prices in several commodity groups, including personal belongings (40.00%), oils and fats (13.95%), tea, coffee and cocoa (11.95%), fruits and nuts (5.19%), and tobacco and cigarettes (3.99%).
Meanwhile, prices declined in several categories, including meat and poultry (7.43%), household appliances (3.24%), fuel and lighting (2.07%), and transport (1.48%).
Comparing the cumulative CPI for the first two months of 2026 with the same period in 2025, prices increased for personal belongings (39.47%), oils and fats (13.70%), tea, coffee and cocoa (11.99%), fruits and nuts (4.71%), and tobacco and cigarettes (3.99%).
In contrast, prices declined for vegetables, dried and canned legumes by 2.09% and fuel and lighting by 1.48%.
