PM discusses impact of regional developments on trade flows

08-03-2026 11:49 AM

Ammon News - Prime Minister Jafar Hassan convened a high-level meeting on Sunday with representatives from international shipping, maritime, and logistics companies to address the resilience of Jordan's supply chains.

The discussions focused on mitigating the impact of regional developments on trade flows and exploring mechanisms to reduce shipping and transport overheads.

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to close coordination with the private sector to safeguard the Kingdom's strategic reserves of essential commodities and energy.

Highlighting a proactive policy framework, Hassan noted that recent Cabinet decisions were designed to ensure a sustainable and sufficient flow of goods despite escalating regional challenges.

Representatives from the logistics and maritime sectors lauded the government's recent interventions, particularly the temporary authorization for containerized imports through land borders and exemptions related to surging sea freight costs.

They confirmed that these measures have had a direct, positive impact on accelerating cargo clearance, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and diversifying the Kingdom’s import routes.

The meeting follows a series of executive measures enacted by the Cabinet last week to counteract regional economic pressures. These include fiscal exemptions to offset maritime freight hikes and streamlined land transport protocols aimed at stabilizing the national inventory of basic goods.

The session was attended by Minister of Labor Nidal Qatamin, Minister of Government Communication Mohammad Al-Momani, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply Yarub Qudah, and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Muhannad Shehadeh.
