Education in Times of War: A Student’s Voice

06-03-2026 03:23 PM

Ammon News - By Heba Karbek - In difficult times, education becomes more than just lessons in a classroom; it becomes a question of safety, fairness, and the future of students. Because of the current war situation, many people have discussed the idea of distance learning. However, the Ministry of Education has not approved moving schools to online learning, so students continue attending school normally. This situation has created different opinions among parents, teachers, and students.

Some people support distance learning because they believe it can keep students safer during uncertain times. They think students can continue learning from home until the situation becomes more stable.

On the other hand, many people believe that school is more than just academic lessons. School life includes social interaction with friends and teachers. Students also take part in sports classes, art, music, and many school activities and clubs. These experiences help students build confidence, creativity, teamwork, and stronger personalities. Without this social and interactive environment, students may feel isolated and less motivated.

Another important issue is infrastructure. Not all students have reliable internet connections, computers, or a quiet place to study at home. Because of this, online learning may create inequality between students, where some students have better opportunities than others.

Many people also remember the experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, students studied online for a long period. Although it allowed education to continue, many students found it difficult to concentrate and missed their friends and school activities.

As a student, I believe safety is very important, but school life is also essential for our development. Being in school helps us learn better and grow socially and emotionally.

In conclusion, education should continue even in difficult times, but it must also be fair and supportive of students’ social and personal development, not only their academic learning.
