Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy in Amman has announced the cancellation of all American Citizen Services (ACS) appointments until further notice as part of a new security alert, emphasizing that the safety and security of U.S. citizens abroad remains its top priority.
The embassy confirmed it has instructed all Mission personnel to shelter in place and strongly recommends that U.S. citizens in Jordan do the same by remaining in a secure location within their residence or another safe building, ensuring they have adequate supplies of food, water, medications, and other essentials.
The embassy noted that Jordanian authorities have ended the temporary nightly closure of Jordanian airspace, which had previously been in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. Travelers are advised to continue monitoring local media and official government sources for updates.
Regarding land border crossings, operations are currently as follows (subject to change depending on security conditions and nationality requirements):
King Hussein/Allenby Bridge: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (except Saturdays)
Wadi Araba Crossing: 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Jordan Valley Crossing: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Jaber Crossing (Syria border): Open 24 hours
Border crossings with Saudi Arabia operating 24 hours a day include:
Umari (Al-Omari) Border Crossing (approx. 155 km from Amman)
Mudawara (Al-Mudawwara) Border Crossing (approx. 322 km from Amman)
Al-Durra Crossing (connecting Aqaba with Haql, Saudi Arabia)
Ferry services between Aqaba and Egypt are also operating. Individuals wishing to depart by sea are advised to contact ferry operators directly regarding schedules and availability.
The embassy urges U.S. citizens to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for security updates.
