Ammon News - The U.S. Embassy in Jordan issued a security alert on Sunday to all Mission personnel to continue to shelter-in-place and avoid the U.S. Embassy Amman compound, as it may be targeted.

The embassy urged all U.S. citizens in Jordan to exercise heightened vigilance, stay away from embassy facilities and military sites, and follow recommended security precautions.

Americans were advised to remain in secure locations, whether at home or in other safe buildings, and ensure they have essential supplies such as food, water, and medications. They were also instructed to avoid demonstrations, minimize public exposure, and stay aware of their surroundings.

The embassy emphasized the importance of monitoring local media for updates, being prepared to adjust plans as needed, keeping phones charged, and maintaining communication with family and friends to inform them of their status.

In the event of immediate danger, individuals were advised to contact the Jordanian police at 911. The embassy also recommended enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive the latest security updates while in Jordan.
