Ammon News - Owners of tourist car rental offices have warned of potential repercussions following plans by the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) to raise the required capital for rental companies from JD100,000 to JD500,000, and to increase the financial guarantee from JD2,000 to JD15,000.
Office owners told "Ammon News" that the proposed amendments could lead to the bankruptcy of up to 60% of rental offices, with expectations that around 700 employees could lose their jobs.
In addition, they called for a comprehensive review of the legislative and regulatory framework, as well as the operational and financial challenges facing the sector.
They also urged a meeting with LTRC's Director General, Riyad Kharabsheh, to discuss the sector’s concerns and ensure its sustainability, emphasizing the need for solutions that balance regulatory requirements with the protection of workers and businesses in the industry.
