Ammon News - The Embassy of Japan in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan hosted its National Day reception, on 11 February 2026, commemorating the 66th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor (born on 23 February 1960).
The event marked another significant milestone of the steadfast friendship between Japan and Jordan. 2025 was a truly remarkable year marked by a series of major highlights that further strengthened bilateral relations, including the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein in November and the visit of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Japan on the occasion of the Osaka–Kansai Expo in May.
In his remarks, Japan’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan ASARI Hideki highlighted that both Japan and Jordan cherish traditional values and modern innovation, and nurtured affinity and friendship for more than seven decades. The excellent bilateral relationship is underpinned by dedication and efforts in a wide range of areas including security and defense, economy and business, culture, sports, education, academia, and people-to-people exchanges.
Some of his excerpts are the followings.
-Recognizing Jordan’s essential role as “an anchor of stability,” Japan continues its close cooperation through humanitarian and development assistance to support Jordan’s modernization efforts. Japan’s economic partnership is underscored by more than $4.4 billion in economic assistance to Jordan to date.
-Active cooperation in the field of defense, exemplified by high-level visits, such as that of Japan’s then-Defense Minister Mr. Nakatani in August as well as the Chief of Joint Staff of the Japan Self-Defense Forces in November.
-On Palestine, Japan will play a proactive role through its “Three Pillar Approach to Sustain Peace” including engagement in the governance mechanism of Gaza, while utilizing the recently announced USD 170 million Assistance Package for Palestine.”
Six Japanese vehicles from Mazda, Isuzu, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Honda were displayed alongside exhibits by JTI, Seiko, Hitachi Energy and Kikkoman, showcasing Japanese companies’ contributions to Jordan by underscoring the strength of Japan–Jordan business bonds.
Japanese culture was presented from traditional Japanese art of floral arrangement, “Ikebana” (flower arrangement) adorned around the stage to the gentle tones of the koto, a classical Japanese string instrument, resonated throughout the hall. Ambassador Asari himself graciously prepared Japanese traditional tea to the guests of honour. Ambassador noted that the tea ceremony is an art embodying Japanese philosophy, and it has been practiced for centuries. The guests enjoyed “Sushi” carefully prepared by the Embassy Chef Mr. Nakamura.
The enduring relationship between Japan and Jordan stands with mutual respect, shared values, and an unwavering commitment to regional stability for many years to come. Japan appreciates Jordan’s invaluable contributions to the stability of the region. Japan looks forward to continuing to work with Jordan.
