Shoman hosts scientific talk on responsible AI and AI Literacy

Ammon News - The Abdul Hameed Shoman Forum will host a talk on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at its headquarters in Jabal Amman. The talk will address Responsible Artificial Intelligence and AI literacy, highlighting their role in capacity building and achieving global impact.

This talk is part of a project supported by the MIT–Abdul Hameed Shoman Foundation Seed Fund. It aims to highlight the importance of responsible and ethical engagement with artificial intelligence technologies, and to promote AI awareness and literacy that enable individuals and institutions to use these technologies effectively in support of development and society.

The session will feature Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, a global expert in artificial intelligence and robotics, and a pioneer in social robotics and human–robot interaction. Dr. Breazeal is widely recognized as a pioneer in the concept of socially interactive robots and led the development of Kismet, one of the first robots capable of understanding and responding to human expressions.

Dr. Breazeal currently serves as Dean for Digital Learning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She is also the founder and director of MIT RAISE, an initiative that promotes AI literacy among children and youth and builds their capacity to navigate rapid technological change. Throughout her academic career, she has received two innovation awards in recognition of her research and applied contributions.

The session will address several key topics, including:
•The principles and ethical dimensions of Responsible AI
•The importance of AI literacy in education and capacity building
•The role of modern technologies in achieving positive, sustainable global impact

The session will be conducted in English and is open to the public , both in person and via Zoom. It is designed for researchers, policymakers, and anyone interested in technology, education, capacity building, and understanding the role of AI in shaping the future of societies.
