Al-Dhamour tribes explain refusal to receive U.S. Ambassador

15-01-2026 08:37 AM

Ammon News - Al-Dhamour tribes issued a statement explaining their refusal to receive U.S. Ambassador James Holtsnider during a condolence gathering held for the late Dr. Abdullah Al-Dhamour.

According to the statement, the tribes considered the ambassador’s visit to be a breach of Jordan’s established political norms, which confine diplomatic engagement to official state channels only. They stressed that relations within the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan are managed exclusively through state institutions, affirming that tribal settings are neither an alternative nor a platform for political communication outside approved frameworks.

The statement further noted that the visit came amid declared U.S. positions and policies that have directly contributed to the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza. In this context, the tribes emphasized that there is no room for political interaction beyond the formal and recognized channels.

Additionally, tAl-Dhamour tribes underscored that the ambassador’s presence conflicted with Jordanian tribal customs, which uphold the sanctity of mourning and prohibit the mixing of condolence gatherings with any form of political activity.
