Ammon News - Amman, the capital, will host a bilateral summit with the European Union on Thursday, the first of its kind between the two sides.
A statement issued by the Council of the European Union indicated that His Majesty King Abdullah II will represent Jordan at this summit, while the European Union will be represented by the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Jordan is a strategic partner for the EU and plays an important role in the Middle East, the statement added.
Costa said: "Our first bilateral summit offers an excellent opportunity to strengthen our partnership and address common challenges in these turbulent times."
The statement also stated that His Majesty and Costa will discuss bilateral relations and the further deepening of the political and economic partnership . They will also touch on key foreign policy issues and global challenges.
EU relations with Jordan
Leaders will review the implementation of the EU-Jordan Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership agreed in January 2025.
This partnership, supported by a €3 billion financial and investment package for 2025-2027, covers five areas of common interest:
political relations and regional cooperation
security and defense
economic resilience, trade and investments
human capital
migration and protection and support for refugees
The partnership aims to support Jordan's stability in a context of extraordinary geopolitical challenges, promote political, economic and administrative modernization, and boost economic resilience.
The partnership builds on strong relations based on the 2002 Association Agreement and the EU-Jordan Partnership Priorities (2021-2027).
