Repairing Infrastructure Damage Caused by Recent Weather Conditions in Karak Governorate

31-12-2025 03:33 PM

Dr. Hamad Kasasbeh
Recent weather conditions in Karak Governorate caused damage to roads, infrastructure, bridges, and culverts. Heavy rainfall and flash floods affected several areas and caused damage to some private properties. This situation requires a fast and well-organized response to protect public safety and ensure the continuity of basic services.

In response, the government moved quickly to the field. Official teams were present in the governorate for two consecutive days to inspect the damage directly on the ground. This helped speed up technical decisions and allowed repair work to begin based on real needs and clear priorities in each location.

The damage included main and secondary roads, water accumulation that blocked traffic in some areas, and damage to bridges and culverts, especially near valleys and flood channels. As the impact spread across different locations, it became clear that repairs must follow a clear and organized plan.

The repair process starts with assessing the damage and setting priorities. It then focuses on fixing damaged roads, maintaining bridges and culverts, and improving stormwater drainage systems in areas where water usually collects. These steps are necessary to restore normal movement and reduce daily disruption for residents.

The government plays a key role in coordinating repair efforts and providing technical and logistical support. Municipalities also play an important role because they are close to affected areas and understand local conditions well. Cooperation between all parties helps speed up implementation and improve results on the ground.

When it comes to financing, a shared approach is more practical and sustainable, especially given the expected pressure on the 2026 state budget. Sharing costs between the government, municipalities, national companies, the private sector, and the banking sector helps reduce pressure on public finances.

There is also a clear need to create a permanent national emergency fund, similar to the fund established during the COVID-19 pandemic. This fund should be used to finance infrastructure repairs and respond to emergencies in all governorates. Making the fund permanent helps avoid unexpected and unplanned pressure on the state budget and allows faster and more organized responses to future emergencies. The fund should rely on shared contributions and be managed under clear rules that ensure transparency, accountability, and fair distribution of resources.

In conclusion, repairing infrastructure damage in Karak Governorate requires cooperation, shared financing, and clear governance. The goal is not only to fix current damage, but also to improve readiness for future emergencies, protect public safety, preserve infrastructure, and support economic and service stability across all regions of the Kingdom.
