Industry, Agriculture ministers assure market readiness ahead of Ramadan

29-12-2025 02:45 PM

Ammon News - The Ministers of Industry, Trade and Supply, and Agriculture said Monday that efforts are underway to ensure the availability of essential goods in the local market and to meet citizens’ needs ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, a period that typically witnesses higher consumption.

The remarks came during a meeting held at the Ministry of Industry to review the demands of the food trade sector and discuss preparations for Ramadan, including strengthening strategic reserves of key commodities to ensure the continuity of commercial activity.

During the meeting, the two ministers directed the formation of a committee comprising representatives from the two ministries, the Jordan Food and Drug Administration, and the General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants to study several demands submitted by food traders, particularly those related to the import of certain goods.

The ministers said the demands raised during the meeting would be reviewed and addressed in a manner that serves the interests of all parties and meets local market needs for both locally produced and imported foodstuffs.

For his part, head of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Commerce and head of the Foodstuffs Traders Syndicate, Senator Khalil Hajj Tawfiq, along with several traders, outlined the main challenges facing the sector and stressed the importance of maintaining sufficient supplies in the local market, especially during Ramadan.
