Ammon News - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has told lawmakers that the 2015 nuclear deal - known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) - remains in effect.

Araghchi said Tuesday that Security Council Resolution 2231 “has expired, but the JCPOA itself remains in effect,” noting that Iran has suspended its commitments since 2020 but has not withdrawn, since “some provisions of the deal serve Iran’s national interests.”

He reiterated Tehran has not withdrawn from the deal, which recognizes Iran’s entitlement to uranium enrichment.

Araghchi said that the three European countries, China and Russia did not withdraw from the agreement

The UK, France, and Germany triggered the snapback on August 28, setting in motion a 30-day process to restore all UN sanctions on Iran.

In September, the E3 and the United States declared the sanctions reinstated and urged UN member states to enforce them.

Araghchi then wrote a letter to the UN chief and the president of the UN Security Council, saying Tehran is no longer subject to Resolution 2231.

So, Iran, Russia and China told the International Atomic Energy Agency that its monitoring and reporting linked to the 2015 nuclear deal should end following the expiry of the UN resolution that endorsed it.
