Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi held high-level talks on Wednesday with Palestinian Vice President Hussein Al Sheikh in Amman, focusing on efforts to stabilise the ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery.

The meeting, attended by Director of the General Intelligence Department (GID) Maj. Gen. Ahmad Husni and Head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Major General Majid Faraj, discussed efforts to advance the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, including launching its second phase and opening a genuine political horizon toward a just and lasting peace, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi and Al Sheikh stressed the importance of coordinating efforts to ensure the success of the ongoing efforts to complete the first phase of the agreement and move to its second phase, ultimately leading to the launch of a genuine political horizon to achieve a just peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

They also reaffirmed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories and must be included in any future Palestinian state, emphasising that all interim arrangements should reflect this reality and reinforce it, the statement said.

The two sides also renewed their appreciation for the efforts of US President Donald Trump and his role in achieving the agreement, his proposal to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent the displacement of the Palestinian people, advance comprehensive peace efforts, and his declaration that he would not allow the annexation of the West Bank.

Safadi and Al Sheikh also reiterated their appreciation for the central role played by the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar in reaching the agreement, according to the statement.

They also condemned the Israeli Knesset’s preliminary approval of two draft laws, one seeking to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and another aiming to legitimize control over an illegal settlement.

They welcomed the advisory opinion issued unanimously by the International Court of Justice earlier in the day, calling on Israel to uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law as the occupying power and to facilitate aid and relief efforts in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Safadi and Al Sheikh affirmed continued cooperation with Arab and international partners to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
