Mining Industries Key Pillar of National Economy - JCI

Ammon News - The Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) underlined that the mining industries sector is one of the main pillars of the national economy, serving as a primary source of raw materials and intermediate components for various industrial processes, thereby enhancing the efficiency, quality, and competitiveness of Jordanian products in local and global markets.

In a statement on Monday, the chamber said the sector comprises more than 78 industrial establishments with a combined capital exceeding JD638 million and provides around 8,000 direct jobs, in addition to thousands of indirect opportunities in transport, logistics, and industrial support services underscoring its vital role in ensuring economic and social stability.

The chamber noted that the sector meets about 98 percent of domestic demand the highest level among Jordanian industries reducing reliance on imports and strengthening the market’s ability to meet its needs locally.

It added that the mining industries generate an annual added value of JD2.1 billion out of a total production volume of JD3 billion, reflecting their substantial contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

During the first seven months of this year, the sector’s exports grew by 8 percent to approximately JD640 million, reaching 61 countries including India, Indonesia, China, Egypt, and Brazil demonstrating the global competitiveness of Jordanian products despite economic challenges and raw material price fluctuations.

Mining industries account for around 13 percent of Jordan’s total industrial exports and are among the top sectors in added value creation. The chamber stressed the need to increase industrial complexity by advancing toward higher value-added manufacturing, thereby boosting GDP and strengthening the national economy.

The JCI also called for enhancing international partnerships and attracting foreign direct investment to support technology transfer, innovation, and industrial processing, as well as developing national expertise positioning Jordan as a promising global destination for mining industries.
