Ammon News - His Majesty King Abdullah II and Sweden Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Tuesday discussed the long-standing relations between Jordan and Sweden, according to a royal court statement.

During bilateral talks followed by expanded ones, the two leaders discussed the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in several areas, including trade, investment, tourism, cyber security, counterterrorism, and defence.

The talks covered the latest developments in the region, with His Majesty highlighting the two countries’ convergence of views on key regional issues, particularly related to the Palestinian cause, including support for efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, and the need to create a political horizon that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

The King commended Sweden’s support for humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza, underscoring the importance of resuming support for UNRWA in accordance with its UN mandate.

Speaking about efforts to end the war on Gaza, His Majesty stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and the entry of sufficient humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip, in line with United States President Donald Trump’s proposal for Gaza.

The King noted Jordan’s continued coordination with active partners to achieve stability in the region, highlighting Sweden’s important role in supporting peace efforts within the European Union.

His Majesty warned of the danger of Israeli escalations targeting Palestinians in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

The King also affirmed Jordan’s support for Syria and Lebanon’s efforts to maintain their security, stability, and territorial sovereignty.

For his part, the Swedish Prime Minister emphasised the importance of partnership with Jordan at the bilateral level and within the framework of the European Union and NATO, expressing his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom across various fields.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh attended the meeting.
