Ammon News - AMMONNEWS- The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has cautioned the public against purchasing medicinal herbs from herb or "health food" shops, saying that some of these products could be deadly.
According to a statement received from JFDA, the shops sell herbal products claiming that they can treat chronic diseases. However, no health and safety standards or measures to confirm the veracity of these claims exist, which could result in dangerous misuse of these herbal products.
The JFDA's statement also said that these products are often prepared in an inappropriate and uncontrolled environment, under no supervision from the necessary authorities, which puts the lives of patients at risk, and has even led to death in some cases.
The JFDA cautioned consumers not to purchase herbs and herbal products that are not JFDA authorized, as they carry out effective scientifically based tests on products to ensure the public health safety and welfare.
