Ministry establishes 55 classrooms for intellectual disabilities students

Ammon News - The Ministry of Education on Monday underscored its commitment to children with disabilities, highlighting efforts to integrate them into the educational process on an equal basis with their peers.

Director of the Programs for Students with Disabilities Directorate, Mohammad Rahamneh, said that the ministry has established 55 classrooms for students with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, 13 schools for deaf students, and one school for the blind.

He added that the ministry has streamlined first-grade registration procedures for students with disabilities for the 2025/2026 academic year in both public and private schools, in accordance with regulations governing the admission and transfer of Jordanian and non-Jordanian students.

Rahamneh detailed that 1,500 support and special education teachers have been appointed, while 2,000 students with disabilities enrolled in private schools have received educational support valued at JD700,000. In addition, 1,800 students enrolled in special education centers and associations benefited from JD735,000 in support.

He pointed out that each education directorate has been provided with a multidisciplinary team, including specialists in physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language, visual rehabilitation, and hearing rehabilitation, along with the necessary tools.

The ministry also distributed hearing, visual, and mobility aids to students with disabilities in public schools, in addition to providing a daily transportation allowance of JD3 per student. The number of beneficiaries has so far reached 2,500. Petra
