Ammon News - Assistant Secretary-General for Animal Wealth at the Ministry of Agriculture, Misbah Tarawneh, revealed on Wednesday that the ministry has lifted the restrictions previously imposed on imports of poultry meat from Brazil, after the threat of avian influenza has passed.
Jordan had imposed restrictions on imports of Brazilian chicken meat last June, after a case of avian influenza was discovered, Tarawneh said.
In a statements to Al-Mamlaka TV, Tarawneh pointed out that Jordan imports an average of 8,000-10,000 tons of frozen chicken annually from Brazil, adding that the majority of these quantities are used in local restaurants.
The ministry's technical teams are closely monitoring health developments in countries exporting animal products, stressing that the ministry will not hesitate to take any necessary decisions to protect public health and the agricultural sector, he noted.
It is worth noting that Brazil exported $10 billion worth of chicken meat last year, representing approximately 35% of the global trade volume in this sector.
