King meets European Parliament president, stresses need for regional de-escalation

Ammon News - His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Tuesday, urged immediate action to de-escalate tensions in the region following Israel’s attacks on Iran.

During the meeting, held at the seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, His Majesty noted that continuation of these attacks threatens increased tensions and expansion of the conflict.

The King affirmed Jordan’s readiness to maintain coordination with friendly and active partners to reach comprehensive calm in the region, noting Europe’s important role in this regard.

His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s position that it will not allow its territory to be used as a battleground for any conflict, and will not tolerate threats to the security, stability, and safety of its citizens.

Discussions also covered the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, with the King urging an immediate end to the war on Gaza, the entry of sufficient aid, and an end to escalations in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

His Majesty reaffirmed the importance of working collaboratively to create a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace, on the basis of the two-state solution.

The meeting also touched on the strong relations between Jordan and the EU, as well as ways to enhance the strategic partnership.

The King also expressed his appreciation to President Metsola for her efforts to strengthen relations between Jordan and the EU, and her endeavours to achieve stability in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Belgium and Head of the Kingdom’s Delegation to the EU Yousef Bataineh attended the meeting.
