Ammon News - The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Monday condemned the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif by Israel's extremist National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
Ben-Gvir led a large group, including government and Knesset members along with extremist settlers, into the holy site, coinciding with the controversial "Flag March."
The Ministry slammed the event and its accompanying "provocative and unacceptable practices" as a "flagrant violation of the historical and legal status quo, and of Israel's obligations as the occupying power."
The Ministry stressed that these actions by the "extremist minister" and his continuous incursions do not alter the fact that East Jerusalem is an occupied city over which Israel holds no sovereignty.
Ambassador Sufyan Qudah, the Ministry's Official Spokesperson, reiterated Jordan's absolute rejection and strong condemnation of the incursion by Ben-Gvir, ministers, Knesset members, and extremist settlers.
He also condemned the role of Israeli police in facilitating these repeated incursions, calling them a "blatant violation of international law and international humanitarian law."
Al-Qudah stated these actions represent an attempt to "impose new realities at the mosque, and to divide it temporally and spatially." He described them as "absurd and an unacceptable escalation, particularly in light of Israel's widening war on the Gaza Strip and its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank."
Ambassador Qudah warned of the severe consequences of these continued violations. He demanded that Israel, as the occupying power, immediately halt all provocative practices by Ben-Gvir and extremist settlers, which he characterized as a continuation of the extremist Israeli government's policy aimed at escalating tensions in the West Bank and raiding Palestinian cities.
He reaffirmed that the entire Al-Aqsa Mosque complex, spanning 144 dunams, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims.
He emphasized that the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, which operates under Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, is the sole legal entity with exclusive authority to manage the affairs of the Al-Aqsa Mosque/ Al-Haram Al-Sharif and regulate entry to it.
