King patronizes launch of Aqaba Marsa Zayed project

Ammon News - AQABA His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday patronized the launch ceremony of the first phase of Marsa Zayed project which is a $10-billion real estate investment carried out by Al Maabar Jordan Real Estate Development Company.

His Majesty laid the foundation stone for the project which aims to develop 3.

2 million sqm plot of land to build high-rise residential towers, retail, recreational, resorts, business and financial districts and branded hotels.

Several marinas will add to the current berthing capacity which will transform Aqaba into a premier yachting destination; in addition to a state-of-the-art cruise ship terminal.

The project is the biggest real estate and tourism venture to take place in the history of Jordan and expected to provide 15,000 jobs upon completion.

Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan Deputy Prime Minister and UAE Minister of the Interior attended the launch ceremony.

The ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Faisal Bin Al Hussein, Prime Minister Samir Rifai, Royal Court Chief Nasser Lozi, the King's Advisor Ayman Safadi, a number of ministers and senior officials and Jordanian and UAE businessmen.

Representative of Al Maabar International Yousef Al Nowais said in remarks that the ceremony, which coincides with Jordan's celebrations on Independence Day reflects the royal vision to build a prosperous life for Jordanians.

"It also reflects the nature of the UAE's role in supporting Arab brethren to achieve economic and social development," he added.

Al Nowais highlighted the importance of the project in developing Aqaba, adding it would also contribute to the development process Jordan is witnessing in the economic, tourism and cultural fields.

The ceremony also included a short documentary on the project and its various stages as well as an air performed by the Royal Falcons.
