Ammon News - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi participated on Thursday in the opening session of the preparatory meeting for Arab foreign ministers ahead of the 34th Arab League Summit, set to take place in Iraq this Saturday.
The session, chaired by Iraq, adopted draft resolutions to be presented at the summit for final approval.
On Wednesday, Safadi conveyed His Majesty King Abdullah II’s congratulations to Iraq for hosting the summit. In a joint press conference with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held as part of the tripartite cooperation mechanism Safadi expressed appreciation for Iraq’s efforts to ensure the summit’s success. He said the summit reflects Arab unity and the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
"We are proud to be in Baghdad, the historic capital and pillar of joint Arab action," Safadi stated. He emphasized the importance of the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Iraq, and Egypt in achieving tangible progress in vital sectors such as energy, water, agriculture, trade, and infrastructure. He confirmed that practical steps are now needed to advance agreed-upon projects and address implementation challenges.
Safadi reiterated Jordan’s commitment to activating the mechanism and deepening operational cooperation based on mutual benefit. He also highlighted coordination in political and security matters, including joint efforts to combat terrorism and maintain regional security.
Regarding Gaza, Safadi called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations to halt the Israeli aggression, which continues to claim innocent lives and devastate the Strip. He warned of the worsening humanitarian catastrophe due to Israel’s continued denial of humanitarian aid, noting that no assistance has entered Gaza since March 2.
"Our shared appeal is for immediate international action to prevent further loss of life due to starvation and deprivation of basic necessities," he said. He added that Jordan continues efforts, along with Egypt, Qatar, the United States, and members of the Joint Arab-Islamic Committee led by Saudi Arabia, to secure a permanent ceasefire and facilitate a prisoner exchange agreement.
On Syria, Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty and unity, calling for an end to Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and support for reconstruction efforts. He described Syria’s stability as essential to regional security.
Safadi also commented on the results of U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent visit to the region, stressing the need to build on its outcomes to help resolve regional crises and promote peace and stability.
