Ammon News - The Ministry of Culture on Tuesday announced the selection of Shobak District as the Jordanian City of Culture for 2025. The announcement was made during an official ceremony held at the district’s Martyrs’ Hall, under the patronage of Minister of Culture Mustafa Rawashdeh, and attended by representatives of official, cultural, and community institutions.
During the ceremony, Rawashdeh stated that the program is part of the Ministry’s strategy, rooted in the Royal vision, to promote pride in national heritage and cultural identity while encouraging creativity and cultural development across the Kingdom’s governorates.
He noted that Shobak was selected due to its deep-rooted historical and cultural heritage, from its iconic citadel an enduring symbol of key historical eras to its scenic landscapes and vibrant cultural and social fabric.
Rawashdeh stressed the importance of engaging the local community and creative individuals, particularly youth, in upcoming activities and events, highlighting the role of cultural industries in fostering creativity in the fields of arts, crafts, and heritage.
Speeches were also delivered by Shobak District Governor Sami Masarweh and Mayor Adel Rafay'a, both of whom expressed pride in the selection and affirmed their readiness to cooperate with the Ministry in implementing a cultural program that reflects the district’s rich legacy.
