Ammon News - Former Prime Minister Abdul Raouf Rawabdeh on Wednesday inaugurated the 19th International Conference of the Jordanian Society of Internal Medicine, held in cooperation with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.

The conference aims to reinforce the concept of continuous medical education and keep Jordanian physicians up to date with the latest advancements in diagnosing and treating internal diseases. Jordanian doctors are presenting 60 lectures highlighting the kingdom’s medical progress.

In his opening remarks, Rawabdeh noted that Jordan has long prioritized investing in essential services to improve citizens' quality of life, including healthcare, education, and public services. He emphasized that these investments have yielded substantial results, transforming Jordan into a regional leader in education and health services and a hub for medical tourism.

He highlighted the transformation of Jordan’s healthcare system from basic services at the inception of the state to today’s advanced network of public and private institutions, specialized professionals, and academic programs that now train local and international students.

Conference President Naif Abdallat praised Jordan’s leadership for its continuous support of the medical sector, which has made the country a top destination for medical tourism in the region. He welcomed delegates from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and emphasized the importance of the partnership in organizing the conference.

Abdallat said the conference aims to update physicians on the latest scientific developments in internal medicine, strengthen collaboration with top international experts, and showcase the achievements of Jordanian doctors locally and abroad.

Mohammad Ghunaimat, president of the Arab Society of Internal Medicine, stressed the importance of this annual event as a platform for exchanging expertise and exploring developments in internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Over the three-day event, specialists from various countries will present dozens of scientific papers on a range of internal medicine fields, including gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology, endocrinology, diabetes, rheumatology, hematology, oncology, radiology, and infectious diseases.

On the sidelines of the conference, Rawabdeh also inaugurated a medical exhibition featuring companies active in the healthcare sector and supporting the event.
