Khamasini weather on Tuesday, significant drop in temperatures in coming days

08-04-2025 08:54 AM

Ammon News - A Khamasini low-pressure condition is currently sweeping across Jordan, causing a sharp increase in temperatures and bringing dry, dusty weather to much of the country, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department.

On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to soar 8 to 10°C above the seasonal norm, with warm to hot conditions prevailing across most regions. The Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba will experience particularly high heat. Skies will be partly cloudy with mid- to high-level cloud cover, and there’s a slight chance of scattered light rain. Winds will be moderate from the southwest, occasionally strengthening, especially in desert areas.

The department has warned of significantly reduced visibility due to widespread dust, especially on external roads, where conditions could approach whiteout in some places.

By Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to drop sharply. Although the dust will persist, especially in the southern and eastern regions, it will begin to dissipate in the north and central parts of the Kingdom. Conditions will turn relatively cold across most areas, while the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba will remain milder. Cloud cover will persist, with a chance of light rain in the evening in northern and central regions. Winds will shift from active southwesterlies—with gusts reaching up to 60 km/h—to moderate northwesterlies later in the day.

Thursday will bring another significant drop in temperatures, with highs expected to be 3 to 5°C below average. The weather will be partly cloudy and cool in most regions, while remaining moderate in the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Scattered light rain is possible, especially in western parts of the country. Winds will continue to be active from the northwest, raising dust in desert areas.

Conditions will begin to stabilise by Friday, with cool temperatures continuing across most of Jordan. The Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba will see more moderate weather. Low-altitude cloud cover will persist, and there remains a slight chance of light rain in the far north. Winds will be moderate northwesterlies, occasionally becoming active.

Tuesday’s highs are forecast to reach 32°C in East Amman and 30°C in West Amman, with overnight lows of 21°C and 19°C, respectively. In the northern highlands, temperatures will range between 26°C and 18°C, while the Sharah highlands are set to see highs of 28°C and lows of 17°C.

Desert areas will be particularly hot, peaking at 35°C during the day and cooling to 18°C at night. Plains regions will mirror temperatures in East Amman. The northern Jordan Valley will see highs of 36°C and lows of 23°C, while the southern Jordan Valley and Aqaba will experience the highest temperatures at 38°C during the day and 25°C overnight. The Dead Sea will also be hot, ranging between 36°C and 24°C.
