PSD: Speeding, sudden lane change key causes of accidents

07-04-2025 04:10 PM

Ammon News - Traffic police dealt with a series of accidents across Jordan in the past 24 hours that caused a fatality and injuries, and officers owed many accidents to speeding, sudden lane change and wrong turns.

Choosing the right time to depart reduces traffic congestion and accidents, they said, adding that good planning and adequate sleep largely enhance road safety.

The officers reported traffic smoothness on highways over the holidays, particularly freight vehicles and public transport buses.

Among the accidents was bags of cement falling from a truck on the Mafraq-Zarqa highway, a truck with a cargo of corn that rolled over near Wadi al-Yutam on the Aqaba-Amman highway disrupting traffic for a while, a collision on the Desert Highway that resulted in one death and a vehicle rollover on the Mafraq-Zarqa road in which three people were injured and evacuated to hospital.

Traffic officers called on motorists to stick to traffic rules and speed limits, avoid dangerous violations and distracted driving, ensure student safety during drop-off and pick-up in designated spots to avoid accidents, and maintain traffic flow for the safety of road users.
