Minister stresses importance of technology in empowering people with disabilities

Ammon News - Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa highlighted the vital role of technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship in empowering persons with disabilities, enabling their independence, dignity, and inclusion across all areas of life.

Speaking at the Third Global Disability Summit 2025 in Berlin during a session titled "Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship: Supporting Independent Living for Persons with Disabilities", Bani Mustafa shared Jordan’s progress in strengthening disability rights through legislative reform.

She noted the country’s efforts to align its legal systems with international agreements, citing the amendment of Article 6 of the Jordanian Constitution as a milestone in affirming the rights of persons with disabilities and the state’s responsibility to support them. She also referenced the Social Development Law of 2024 and accompanying regulations that advance social work practices.

The minister highlighted Jordan’s strides in assistive technology, including smart devices, accessibility-focused apps, and AI-powered solutions that have improved the quality of life for persons with disabilities. Various government bodies have embraced tech-driven approaches in education, healthcare, rehabilitation, and social services, enhancing both reach and service quality.

She also showcased how technology has supported inclusive education, economic empowerment, and equal healthcare access for people with disabilities.

Bani Mustafa concluded by calling for joint efforts from governments, private sectors, civil society, and international partners to expand investment in assistive tech, promote affordability, and foster innovation among persons with disabilities. She stressed the importance of turning legislative promises into actionable policies and inclusive practices.
