Ammon News - The general consumer price index (inflation) increased by 2.21% in the first two months of 2025, reaching 112.30 points compared to 109.87 points for the same period in 2024, according to a report by the Department of Statistics.
The report highlighted key commodity groups that contributed to the rise in inflation, including personal luggage, which increased by 16.69%, tobacco and cigarettes by 12.73%, meat and poultry by 8.70%, spices, food additives, and other foods by 5.32%, and culture and entertainment by 5.07%.
For February 2025, inflation rose by 2.12%, reaching 112.36 points compared to 110.02 points in February 2024. The main contributors to this increase were personal effects (18.39%), tobacco and cigarettes (12.73%), meat and poultry (8.69%), spices, food additives, and other foods (5.34%), and culture and entertainment (5.18%). However, the rise was offset by a decline in prices for furniture, carpets, and bedding (3.46%), clothing (2.50%), household appliances (2.31%), and dried and canned vegetables and legumes (2.13%).
On a monthly basis, the index increased by 0.11% in February compared to January, rising from 112.23 to 112.36 points. The main contributors to this rise were personal luggage (2.87%), fish and seafood (1.02%), meat and poultry (0.97%), communications (0.75%), and beverages and refreshments (0.55%).
