Mobile voice traffic hit 7.1 billion minutes during Q3

Ammon News - Jordan's mobile broadband subscriptions reached 8.259 million in the third quarter of 2024, with prepaid users dominating at 70 percent of the market and postpaid subscribers accounting for 30 percent, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) reported Wednesday.

Voice and data packages comprised 84 percent of mobile subscriptions, while data-only lines made up 16 percent. Mobile voice traffic hit 7.1 billion minutes during Q3, with domestic calls representing 97 percent and international calls 3 percent.

Users exchanged 334 million SMS messages, while mobile penetration reached 70.8 percent of total population and 108.9 percent among those over 15 years old.

5G adoption showed significant growth, with subscriptions surging 37 percent to 70,422 from 51,491 in Q2. Mobile broadband data consumption reached 653 million gigabytes, up from 627 million in the previous quarter.

In fixed-line services, subscriptions totaled 485,000, achieving a 20 percent household penetration rate. Residential users accounted for 67 percent of subscriptions, with commercial users at 33 percent.

Fixed-line users generated 12.5 million minutes of calls, with domestic traffic representing 84 percent and international calls 16 percent.

Fixed broadband internet subscriptions grew to 800,000, representing 33 percent household penetration, up from 793,000 subscriptions and 32.9 percent penetration in Q2.

Fiber optic services dominated with 71.7 percent market share and 573,000 subscriptions (up from 556,000 in Q2), followed by Fixed Broadband Wireless Access at 17.8 percent and xDSL at 9.9 percent.

Fixed broadband data consumption reached 1.352 billion gigabytes, increasing from 1.289 billion in Q2, with monthly usage per subscription rising to 564GB from 542GB in Q2. Leased line services reached 23,739 subscriptions, up from 23,011 in Q2. Petra
