Labor Ministry: Non-Jordanian students are not allowed to work

02-01-2025 10:16 AM

Ammon News - The Ministry of Labor said on Thursday that non-Jordanian students and minors under the age of 18 who are not Jordanians are not allowed to work or issue work permits.

The Ministry on Wednesday began an inspection campaign in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate to arrest illegal expatriate workers.

The cases in which the employer violates the law with a fine of no less than JD800 and does not deport the worker but is required to issue a work permit are if the worker is of Syrian nationality (not exempt from permit fees), and if the worker holds a refugee card (not exempt from work permit fees), the Ministry said in a press statement.

The Ministry's spokesperson Mohammad Zyoud had said that 54,000 expatriate workers had not corrected their status or issued a valid work permit since 2021.
