Ammon News - President of the Jordan Farmers Union (JFU), Odeh Rawashdeh, warned of the delay of the rainy season and its negative repercussions on the sector, noting that the agricultural areas in the Jordan Valley depend on dam water, but the rest of the areas depend heavily on rain water.

In a statement to Ammon, Rawashdeh said that farmers hope for an improvement in the rainy season and that crops, especially field crops such as wheat, barley, and lentils, will not be affected, as they depend entirely on rainwater and are grown in areas characterized by their vast areas and high temperatures, such as the eastern and southern regions.

He also expressed his concern about the continued rise in temperatures, which would increase the quantities of vegetable production currently on the market, or their significant decrease to the point of frost in some areas, leading to losses for farmers.

Rawashdeh also expressed his optimism about a good season and that the coming days will make up for the lost rainfall, hoping that the import and export movement will return to what it was before between Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, for the good of the national economy and farmers who have been patient and endured a lot during the past years that witnessed events and closures at crossings and borders.
