Ammon News - The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), in collaboration with the Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Jordan Chamber of Commerce’s ICT sector representative, recently held a dialogue session with communication device importers in the Kingdom.
The purpose of the meeting, according to a TRC statement issued Thursday, was to discuss the regulatory guidelines for obtaining type approval for communication devices and the process of importing them into Jordan.
Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners of the TRC, Bassam Sarhan, explained that this session is part of an ongoing series of meetings aimed at gathering feedback from the private sector and stakeholders.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining public-private partnership, ensuring the effective implementation of the TRC’s technical and regulatory standards, and simplifying procedures for traders, especially those importing devices used in e-learning, such as desktop computers, laptops, and related accessories.
The meeting also addressed proposed amendments to the regulations governing type approval and device importation, with an agreement reached with the ACC on changes that would streamline commercial activity and encourage technological advancement in the Kingdom. These updates are designed to facilitate the importation of advanced devices and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, supporting Jordan’s digital transformation.
Another key topic discussed was extending the validity of type approval for communication devices from one year to two years, to help smooth the process of importing devices and ensure easier access to them through TRC offices at various customs centers.
Additionally, the regulations for importing certain devices for personal use without the need for type approval were also reviewed, simplifying the process for individuals acquiring devices annually.
The recent amendments to the regulations aim to promote the import of communication devices for research and development purposes by institutions, universities, business incubators, and local companies, fostering innovation and research activities by Jordanian experts and engineers. Petra
