The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources chaired the "Energy Charter Conference" held in Brussels on Tuesday, with a focus on enhancing energy security, sustainability, and innovation.

Speaking on behalf of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Conference President Saleh Kharabsheh, Secretary-General of the Ministry, Amani Azzam, emphasized the pivotal role of the Energy Charter Treaty in protecting investments, facilitating energy trade, and providing equitable dispute resolution mechanisms.

In her opening address, Azzam underlined the importance of sustainable energy practices and international collaboration to achieve energy security, describing the Charter as a cornerstone for guiding energy and investment strategies in an ever-changing global landscape.

She highlighted the critical need for collective efforts to address global energy challenges, calling on member states to leverage shared resources and expertise to ensure energy security, encourage sustainability, and foster clean energy innovation.

Azzam also detailed Jordan’s achievements in renewable energy, noting the Kingdom’s proactive measures to diversify energy sources, particularly in solar and wind power. These efforts, she said, have positioned Jordan as a regional leader in renewable energy generation while contributing to energy security, job creation, and economic growth. She stressed that these developments align with the Energy Charter’s goals and reinforce Jordan’s commitment to modernization and sustainability.

The conference aimed to finalize and approve proposals to modernize the Energy Charter Treaty, strengthening cooperation frameworks for energy security and investment protection. Discussions centered on strategies to attract energy infrastructure investments, enhance governance, and support the transition to renewable energy.

Delegates also worked on establishing a roadmap for implementing treaty modernization measures, promoting dialogue to address urgent energy issues, fostering partnerships with international organizations and private sector stakeholders, and setting mechanisms to monitor commitments.
