Ammon News - Tariq Al-Majali, the Ministry of Interior's media spokesperson, stated that there have been no alterations to the rules for non-Jordanians owning property in Jordan.

In a press statement today, Sunday, he mentioned that the Ministry of Interior's approval for a non-Jordanian's ownership request followed the amendments to the Real Estate Ownership Law, published in the Official Gazette on September 17, 2023 AD after approval by the National Assembly and completion of all constitutional stages.

Al-Majali highlighted that the updates to the law, as mentioned in Article 133, state that non-Jordanians need approval from the Minister of Interior for owning property in the country, following the instructions issued for this purpose. These instructions were released in alignment with the law and were published in the most recent Official Gazette issue.

He further highlighted that non-Jordanians are strictly banned from owning property in border, archaeological, and historical regions according to the law, and recent changes have granted the Council of Ministers the authority to extend this prohibition to other designated areas.

He clarified that these guidelines are a procedural system and a safeguard for implementing the law, managing the process of approval, and overseeing communication between the Department of Lands and Survey and the Ministry of Interior. He emphasized that there are no new procedures, expansions, or changes regarding non-Jordanians owning property in the country.

Al-Majali clarified that non-Jordanians owning real estate in the Kingdom must follow the principle of reciprocity. Holders of Arab nationalities are exempt from this requirement, but it applies to all other nationalities held by non-Jordanians, even if they have multiple nationalities.

He further mentioned that according to Article 133 of the Real Estate Ownership Law, the Minister of Interior has the power to assess and approve or deny requests for real estate ownership by non-Jordanians based on public interest criteria. Approval is contingent on thorough verification procedures and strict conditions.
